Phantom Train – Dragoon Mountains, AZ

Reports of a ghostly train chugging across the plains have been reported here for years. Many people say they have heard the steam engine’s  eerie distant whistle or caught a glimpse of its dim yellow headlight.

Some folks have even gotten close enough to make out the figure of an engineer covered in black soot pulling on the train’s whistle.

What makes these encounters strange is that no railroad tracks have ever been laid in the area. 

The Phantom Train of Dragoon has been seen crossing the alkali flats in southeastern Arizona, from the Dragoon Mountains to the town of Wilcox. The area is located off I-10 at Dragoon, about fifty miles northwest of Tombstone.
