Fantasma Colorado – Near Clifton, CO

The Fantasma Colorado, Spanish for “Red Ghost”  was first seen in 1883.  The “Red Ghost” is described as a huge red camel with a human corpse tied to its hump with tight rawhide bands.

The ghoul reportedly terrorized propsectors and settlers for many years. The camel may have been part of  an expedition of camels brought into the area by the U.S. Army 1857, but its had to say for sure.

The ghostly form of the giant red camel is still reportedly seen in the area.

The town of Clifton is on the San Francisco River in southern Arizona, south of the Apache National Forest. Most of the Red Ghost sighting have occurred at Chase Creek, which runs parallel to Highway 666, and at Eagle Creek, a few miles west of Clifton.
